Coming up this Autumn

Posted: Tuesday 1st October 2024

Autumn is here (I know, we can’t believe it either). That wonderful time of year when the air turns crisp, the nights are getting slowly darker and the landscape transforms into a rich shade of red, orange and brown. Here at Visit Wigan, we think there is no better time to get out and enjoy the borough and the many great events that are planned across our borough over the coming months are a great way to do this.

Here is just a snippet of some of the great things to do:

Haigh Woodland Park will hold their ever-popular Pumkin Pickin’ from 24th-27th October. It’s set to be a frightfully good day for all, with a family Halloween quiz and a song and dance show alongside your opportunity to pick your own pumpkin to take away. Tickets can be purchased from Eventbrite(external link) for £5.50 (plus fees).

England Rugby League will host two events in Wigan over the last weekend of October, bringing the curtain down on a fantastic year in the sport for the borough. First up, they will take on France in the Wheelchair International at Robin Park Leisure Centre on Saturday 26th, followed by the Men’s first test match of the Autumn series at the Brick Community Stadium against Samoa. Tickets for both are available here(external link).

Tickets are now available on Eventbrite(external link) for the annual Light Night Wigan spectacular and selling out fast! After a great reception in 2023, the event will return to Mesnes Park, Wigan between 21st – 23rd November with an array of national artists showcasing their light inspired artworks in beautiful surroundings..

If the weather takes a turn (as it usually does in the North West) we still have you covered! Visit the Turnpike Gallery and explore the Beyond The Surface exhibition, which showcases artworks, photography and films from Fallen Angels Dance Theatre and features the newly commissioned work Samadhi, an immersive digital dance, light and sound installation. The exhibition is on until November 23rd.
