Words words words. What if we forgot language for a moment, and connected with something more simple? Something innate, primal, and as loud as a look? Exploring their own degenerative hearing loss as a source of celebratory play and invention, a clown stumbles before its audience, and dances between the chattering heads and the singing hands of strangers. Immerse yourself in a world where the loudest actions are lost in translation, and the tiniest looks become deafening. A visual spectacle that celebrates silence, and throws a wordless laugh into the face of frustration – all for one clown to say “hello!”.

Wigan History Festival
Come and soak up the heritage of our borough. There’ll be stalls with information on our rich history from its time as a Roman encampment to the present day. Themes will cover archaeology, education, military, war time home fronts, industry, historic buildings, crime, and many more. You can also enjoy talks on the famous architects that helped to shape the town, along with one on the history of Haigh Hall.

The Dinosaurs are back
A one man adventure with poetry, rap, dance… and lots of dinosaurs! Join Proto, the smallest and quietest dino, as he meets some wildly different prehistoric personalities. When a group of three troublesome allosaurus decide to stir things up, is there any way everyone can be friends? Award-winning rhythmic rhymer Dommy B (Glastonbury Festival Poet in Residence, BBC ‘Rhyme Rocket’) takes you on a wild and interactive ride, telling you about his delightful dino pals. Explore the wild and cultivated plants around Haigh and the fascinating stories, mythology and folklore surrounding them. On our seasonal foraging walks, we will get to grips with some of these plants, some of them edible, some poisonous. You will learn how to identify them, about their fascinating ecology, how they fit in the landscape and their edible and medicinal uses. Where possible we will get hands on and even try some plants in the field; a great way to learn more about the plants around the estate. Walk route will be over uneven ground, sturdy footwear is advised.

Communicating Doors
This intricate comedy thriller by the British master of farcical comedy has delighted audiences. A frantic race begins when a lady of 'ill repute' is hired for an evening at the Regal Hotel by an old man who dismisses her normal services in favour of confessing his role in certain highly dubious business practices along with his part in the demise of his previous wives. Now a target, the 'lady' flees into a vestibule through a communicating door and starts a race over forty years to right the wrongs of the past but still live to tell the tale.

Woodland Spa Days
Mindful Events aim to provide an enjoyable and non-judgmental environment for anyone wishing to ease their minds through guided mindfulness exercises in nature. Each session lasts for two hours and includes a gentle walk practising the power of pause, a self-heating eye mask, 1:1 crown chakra healing treatment, group reiki, guided mindfulness meditation and a nature-inspired sound bath.

Breakfast with the Moths of Haigh
Join our moth enthusiasts Jeff and Marcus to identify what species have been captured in our moths traps overnight and discover the secret world of these crucial, night-flying pollinators. Our humane traps ensure all moths are safely inspected and released. No experience necessary - everyone is welcome! To conclude the morning, Jeff and Marcus will lead a short nature walk into the Woodlands. A ticket to the crazy golf is also included in your price.

Armed Forces Day
This annual, family-friendly event is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, past and present. The day starts with a military parade from Mesnes Park, heading along Mesnes Street and Standishgate towards market Place, where you will find music and entertainment, fun fair and stalls plus an array of military vehicles and displays on show.

Flashes Festival of Nature
Pennington Flash forms part of The Flashes of Wigan and Leigh, the first National Nature Reserve in Greater Manchester and you are invited to spend a fun-filled day at its annual showcase for a day of nature-themed activities. Come along and learn more about the abundance of wildlife that resides in and around this amazing site and it’s importance to our landscape, through a range of activities that include guided walks, stalls, arts and crafts and much more.

Twilight nature and bat walk
Join our bat experts for a twilight nature and bat walk around Haigh Woodland Park. It will begin with a fascinating introduction to the bats of Haigh, followed by a guided walk through the woodland where our experts will stop at various points to talk about the trees, wildlife, insects, and fungi and answer any questions. When dusk falls, you will be supplied with a bat detector to tune in as they swoop and feed over the park. Please wear sturdy footwear and bring a torch! Children are free with a full paying adult.
