Wigan borough is getting ready for Christmas. Events are taking place across the borough throughout December, follow Visit Wigan on social for the latest headline event updates and community events.
Leigh Christmas Markets
Take the opportunity to pick up some unique gifts and get the full festive shopping experience with our local street markets in the run up to Christmas.

Hindley & Hindley Green
Festivities kick off on Saturday 25th November with the Christmas Festival & Markets. There will be over 70 stalls selling local crafts, food & drinks, face painting and gifts galore, it’s sure to get you into the Christmas spirit. This is followed by the Christmas Light switch on, taking place on 3rd December at Hindley Town Hall on Sunday 3rd December.

Wigan Markets Christmas Specials
Every Saturday in December there will be extra Christmas magic happening in Wigan Market. Each Saturday there will be a snow globe with a special Christmas character so you can get some insta-worthy festive photos. There will also be a nostalgic Victorian Choir on the 9th December and Christmas Crafts for all ages on the 16th December.

Standish Christmas Markets
Standish Christmas Markets return, bigger and better than ever! Starting from 11am through to 8pm with outdoor stalls, indoor craft halls, Santa’s grotto and much more. There’ll be entertainment from buskers, bands, singers and school choirs to naughty elves and even the Grinch roaming around. The community has really come together to provide a festive day for all the family. Parking is limited and a shuttle bus has been arranged, running from 10am and picking up at 8 locations between Pepper Lane and the Boar's Head pub.

Ashton BIG Christmas Markets and Lights Switch
Ashton’s BIG Christmas Markets and lights switch on will take place on Sunday 3rd December from 1pm to 6pm, culminating in a spectacular fireworks finale. There’s lots to do for all the family, including funfair, drum workshops from Bom ta Bom, circus skills by the team at Circus Sensible and craft activities for the children. You’ll also be entertained by the local schools, dance groups and performers on the main stage throughout the day. The ever-popular local market stalls will be on hand offering an array of local gifts and produce, alongside a serving of delicious food and drink to enjoy.

Pemberton Christmas Markets
Taking place between noon and 5pm, there will be food and market stalls across both Pemberton Masonic Hall and Lamberhead Club, including Loren Nicole photography taking Christmas family portraits and Kevin the Klown who will host a free show for children at 1pm. Mrs Claus will be performing Christmas songs and Carols at the White Swan from 2.45pm. Santa will then make an appearance from 3.45pm, before turning the tree lights on at 4.30pm, then meeting with children at the Masonic Hall at 4.30pm.

Atherton Christmas Events
Atherton kick starts an exciting festive season with their Nativity Parade, which takes place on Friday 1st December, followed by a Brass Band Concert from Golborne Brass Band at the Parish Church in Atherton on Saturday 2nd December. The ever-popular Christmas Market returns on Saturday 9th December, between 10am – 5pm. There will be a variety of local businesses there from gift stalls to food vendors to local shops and bars
